Human Population Dynamics

Human population is increasing a great deal. For many generations, people have tried to figure out, the maximum amount of people that can live on Earth at once. The study of human  population is called Demography. Abruptly, from 1500 to 2000 the population grew to a great extent. One of the main reasons for this is because of the mechanization of agriculture, which allowed more food to be obtainable. Soon, after several decades people started to realize that they didn’t need so many children to fit their desired family size. As women also started getting more opportunities in the labor force, they focused more on work rather than conceiving children. Within countries, birth rate can differ broadly.

Between 1850 to 1950, healthy and safety in industrialized nations improved living conditions excessively. Developing nations have face many difficulties in recent decades, like poverty, low levels of education, poor health, wars, natural resources depletion, domination(both economic and political), etc. Overpopulation is a big issue in some countries. Especially China and India, in 1979, China put a limit on the number of children per family. The limit was one, maybe two is special cases. In India, forced sterilizations happened, during the 1970s.

Small societies use less resources than larger ones, but its not only the amount of people that is counted. The United States is ¼ as large as China or India, but it uses without doubt more energy. This happens because Americans are wealthier, and buy things such as cars or electronics. Nevertheless China and India are growing and soon they will become more wealthier. Cities can be more efficient by governments investing in things, like public transportation, clean water supplies, clean energy sources, etc. However, cities can also be dirty and dangerous, life there can be quite unhealthy. Multiple people move to cities, end up living is slums, especially in developing cities. Developing countries have a higher dependency ratio compared to developed nations. Dependency ratios are the dependents to the 100  working- age people.

Illness is also an important factor in decreasing human population. Though illnesses that are considered minor now, were major killers back then. They were brought under control, and most deaths occurring recently were caused by chronic diseases. Such as cancer, stroke, heart disease, etc. Tobacco also causes more death in the United States then murders, alcohol use, HIV, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and illegal drug use combined. In countries, the life span varies quite a bit.
